Thanks to everyone who came out to the Meetup tonight for the Orlando Java Users Group (OJUG). I hope everyone found it educational and helpful.

A family member has been having some health issues lately, so I thought it might be helpful for her to have sort of a “panic button” she can press if she’s feeling ill and needs help. The button would need to be simple to use, and should send a message to nearby relatives so they can run and assist. I also wanted it to use WhatsApp, since she lives in Colombia, where WhatsApp is more popular than SMS.

After three years, the app was getting a bit stale. Changes to the Swift language were causing performance issues, so I migrated to Swift 5 and improved the networking calls. It also needed some cosmetic upgrades to look better on iPhone XR, iPad, etc. Looking much better and running super fast.

Man, this one had me pulling my hair out. I was doing something I generally try to avoid - calling a stored procedure in MySQL from a Spring/Hibernate JPA app. Something like this:

I often find myself reading some long web page on my Mac, and wishing I had an easy way to “throw” it over to my iPhone so I could continue reading on the go. Emailing the link to myself was one way to handle it - and with the Messages app, I could “text” the link to myself - but I always wished there was an easier way.
